Orange Energy

Via

Orange happens to be one of my favorite colors. It is a combination of yellow and red, ranging from warm orange tones to intense bright hues, melon and peach tints, darker autumn shades, and terracotta.

Via

When I think of orange, the word stimulation comes to mind.  Orange can put you in a prime form for mental tasks and it also stimulates the appetite.

Via

Orange increases the oxygen supply to the brain and encourages creativity.

Via

Some of the positive psychological effects orange may have on us include physical comfort, warmth, security, shelter, passion, cheerfulness, enthusiasm, excitement and fun.

Via

Orange is used to draw attention with its vibrant and flamboyant characteristics.

Via

Because orange symbolizes abundance, it can also imply affordability and low cost.

Via

Nobody likes to talk about the negative implications of color, especially when it relates to one of my favorite colors.  Orange can bring an outlook of deprivation, frustration, aggression, frivolity, and immaturity.

Via

However, what I like best about the color orange is the energy it reveals, and its association with sunshine, health, and vitality.

Chicken Soup For The Home

“Somebody once said to me, ‘There’s no such thing as a bad color, fabric, or wallpaper, just bad applications.’ That’s more my attitude. For every rule that exists, I’m sure there’s a beautiful room that breaks it. The reality is that there are no rules.” - Michael S. Smith, Michael S. Smith Houses

The Luck of the Leprecheun

Via

With it being St. Patrick’s Day today, if couldn’t be a better time to introduce the color green!

Via

Green is known for its calming characteristics and will help you ground your thoughts, relieve stress and focus.

Via

Green is very pleasing for a kitchen and for food areas.

Via

These days when I hear of green design, I immediately think of environmental awareness rather than the color green.

Via

Green is the color of spring.

Via

It is a very spiritual, restful, and signifies reassurance.

Via

When grayed, warmed or cooled, green makes an excellent background.

Via

White brings out green’s best qualities.

Via

It is the easiest color on the eye as it requires no adjustment when it strikes.

Via

We are reassured by green as it indicates the presence of nature and little danger or famine.

Via

Green is associated youth, safety, and peace.

Via

With all of these restful, peaceful and calming rooms, who would think that green can also have some negative connotations? Green symbolizes jealousy, envy, boredom, and stagnation for some of us!

But most importantly, today it symbolizes LUCK! So don’t forget to wear something green today and have a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!

Why Is Color Such An Influential Energy In Our Lives?

Photo Via

Color has such a powerful effect and can dramatically influence moods, feelings and emotions as well as cause physiological reactions.  Feelings of color can also be extremely personal and are often ingrained in our own experience or culture.

While opinions and perceptions of color can be very subjective, there are some color effects that are typical for the majority of us.  Most people do not realize how the colors of our surrounding affect us.  Color is also the most vital and expressive of the elements of design.

I have so much I would like to share on the meaning of color, psychological and physiological effects color has on us, the Theory of Color, as well as how all of this relates to selecting color schemes for interior design.  Please join me as I take you on an excursion through the rainbow.  You can keep an eye on this series by following me on Facebook, Twitter, and/or LinkedIn, or you can subscribe by email.  All of these options are available to you on the right column of my blog.

Chicken Soup For The Home

“When juxtaposing a variety of patterns or textures…a conversation is created; you can choose a theme and then throw in a completely different note. This is how the patterns in an interior reflect a whole way of life, by echoing a way of dressing or conversing with others in the room.” – Allegra Hicks, An Eye for Design

Chandelier Made From Thousands Of Used Coffee Stirrers

eco furniture, green furniture, top 7 furniture designs, furniture to transform your home, transforming furniture, green design, eco design, eco minded furniture, green interiors, eco interiors, tetris shelf, eadie armchair, punching bag sofa, recycled coffee stirrer lamp, coffee stirrer chandelier, champ sofa, white mod lodge sideboard, antique quilts ottoman, biodegradable zebra chair, brave design, the future perfect, 2modern

This eye-catching lamp might look like a sparkling crystalline chandelier, but it’s actually made from thousands of used coffee stirrers. Every day millions of stirrers are discarded after serving a useful life of only a few  seconds – and they sit in landfills for thousands of years as they degrade. To  find a better place for all this plastic waste, Portuguese design group Studio Veríssimo created this gorgeous eco-luxe chandelier that illuminates dark spaces while shedding light upon the issue of excess consumer waste.

Since I found this post, I have been trying really hard to grasp how long it would take for someone to collect thousands of used coffee stirrers and how many times they had to wash their hands!! I am very impressed though at the art created while emphasizing this issue.

Kudos to Inhabitat for posting this in their article 7 Gorgeous Green Home Furnishings.
