Stalking Day 4 – Elle Decor’s Fun Window Wonderland

STUNNING holiday windows from stores across the country!!  Wouldn’t it be fun to take a day trip to see Christmas in New York City?  Our jet is in the shop and I gave our pilot a long over due vacation.  Needless to say, we won’t be making the trip this year.
I miss the days living in New Jersey when I could just hop on a bus and 45 minutes later I was in the city.  My girls would absolutely LOVE these displays!!  Of course, not all of the displays are located in New York City, but we would be guaranteed our fill of Christmas galour with a visit.
A big thank you to Laura Fetton for writing this article and Elle Decor for Publishing this masterpiece.

Barneys New York
Barneys New York teamed up with the Food Network, the Cooking Channel, and Illy to deck their Madison Avenue windows in a “Have a Foodie Holiday!” theme. A papier-mâché Mario Batali head sits on a platter, while a mannequin wearing a dress made of foil coffee bags and disposable cups sports an Illy espresso machine as a headdress. Simon Doonan and his madcap team have created a campy homage to the well-known foodies of today.

Henri Bendel
Visions of sugarplums dance in the windows of Henri Bendel, which has partnered with the New York City Ballet to turn George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker into a series of holiday vignettes. With costumes designed by Marc Happel of the NYCB Costume Shop, the mannequins take the roles of the iconic story, including the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Mouse King.

Lord & Taylor
Lord & Taylor has taken the theme of their holiday windows—“Share the Joy”—literally. Customers were asked to share their favorite holiday memories, which inspired the store’s 12 animated Christmas scenes set in New York City.

Tory Burch
Tory Burch collaborated with artist Timothy Paul Myers to create unique holiday installations made of pegs from the much-loved toy, Lite-Brite. Inspired by a photograph of a reindeer and the colors of Tory Burch’s holiday and resort collections, Myers used more than 2 million pegs to create 46 light displays for the brand, each depicting a Pop Art–like reindeer.

Gump’s
A music box in the shape of a 1960s television set provided the inspiration for Gump’s holiday windows this year. The nearly 150-year-old San Francisco department store was so enamored of the music box—which came from its holiday gift collection—that the store’s visual display team created television-like display cases in which vignettes of merchandise sit.

Anthropologie
Despite its woodland theme, you won’t find any fresh-cut trees in Anthropologie’s holiday displays this year. The eco-conscious retailer has chosen to display only living trees or handmade ones in its windows. In keeping with their environmentally minded theme, recycled materials, like coffee stirrers and paper plates, are worked into the decor, and trees are adorned with handcrafted ornaments, like miniature birds with wings made from fabric scraps.
